Focus has long recognised the important role that food and nutrition in the lives of people we support. Focus Dietetics was launched in November 2017 to provide an additional service for Focus clients to help them meet their nutrition needs while building shopping and cooking skills to prepare healthy meals.
Focus’ Accredited Practising Dietitian, Shannon Butler, started working with Focus in 2015 as a Support Worker. She was quickly recognised for her organisational skills and knowledge of the health sector, and was promoted to the role of Senior Support Worker. She stepped down from this role in 2016 to complete her Master of Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Canberra, during which time she continued to provide direct support to many Focus clients.
Shannon believes that people with disability really can have a positive, healthy relationship with food and eating. She uses the rapport and relationships she has built with Focus clients over the years to provide them with tailored nutrition education and to help them make nutrition improvements that are aligned with their preferences, skills, and lifestyles.
Focus Dietetics also provides nutrition and dietitian services to other NDIS participants in Canberra and surrounding areas. Click here to see the Focus Dietetics page on the website.
