Casual Disability Support Workers
Support people to live their lives.
For more than 35 years, Focus ACT has supported people with disability across Canberra to live with greater independence, choice and connection.
We are looking for casual Disability Support Workers to provide respectful, person-centred support in people’s homes and communities.
The role
Work alongside people, not around them.
Every shift reflects the needs, preferences, routines and goals of the person you support. At the heart of the role is promoting choice, dignity, independence and inclusion.
Supporting everyday routines and activities
Assisting with personal care and daily living
Supporting meal preparation and household tasks
Helping participants attend appointments and access their community
Encouraging social participation, interests and meaningful activities
Building everyday living skills, confidence and independence
Assisting with medication in line with training and organisational requirements
Following individual support plans, health plans and participant-specific guidance
Completing clear and accurate progress notes and required documentation
Recognising and reporting changes in health, wellbeing or support needs

Previous disability-support experience is desirable. We also welcome relevant experience in community services, health, aged care, education or a similar field.
A relevant Certificate III, Certificate IV or Diploma is desirable, but not essential.
Essential requirements
What you’ll need before starting
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Current ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration with NDIS activities
- Current National Police Check
- Current First Aid and CPR
- Current unrestricted Australian driver licence
- Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance when using a private vehicle for work
- Evidence of the right to work in Australia
You’ll need flexibility across a rotating roster. Weekday, evening and weekend availability is particularly valuable.
